Regional Spelling Bee

  • spelling bee
Help your students build confidence, work towards a goal and improve their spelling by participating in the Spelling Bee. It helps promote literacy, aid children in learning concepts, improving comprehension and can develop study skills. Register your school today to give your students the challenge of spelling words.
The Spelling Bee is a series of spelling contests starting at your local school and district. The winner from the district will advance to the Regional Bee in Redwood Falls. The four regional winners will then participate in the Multi-Region State Spelling Bee in Furgus Falls. That winner will then advance to the National Spelling Bee. The champion of our Multi-Region Spelling Bee will win an all-expenses-paid trip (including one adult) to compete in the 2019-20 Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, DC.
    Target Audience - Grades 5-8

Registration Information

  • In order to participate in the Regional Spelling Bee event in Redwood Falls, SCHOOLS MUST REGISTER WITH BOTH SWWC SC and with Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Schools then hold a Local Bee in each school building (elementary and middle) with those winners competing in a District Bee prior to January 22. The top one or two winners are then sent to the Regional Bee. The number of students attending the Regional Bee from each district is determined by the size of your school. One speller per 1,000 students based on a K-12 enrollment. For rules and procedures, see the handbook on the right.
There can be NO Livestreaming or video taping of the Spelling Bee Competitions. The words that are provided by Scripps are used all around the country; therefore we do not want to give others an unfair advantage.
