The Spelling Bee Program is designed to help students improve their spelling skills and increase their vocabulary development; giving students encouragement as they build confidence. The Spelling Bee is a series of spelling contests starting at the local school and district level with winners advancing to the regional event. Regional winners then participate in the Multi-Region State Spelling Bee with that winner advancing to the National Spelling Bee. The champion of our Multi-Region Spelling Bee will win an all-expenses-paid trip (including one adult) to compete in the 2018-19 Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, DC held May – June 2019.

Schools then hold a Local Bee in each school building (elementary and middle) with those winners competing in a District Bee prior to January 23. The top one or two winners are then sent to the Regional Bee. The number of students attending the Regional Bee from each district is determined by the size of your school. One speller per 1,000 students based on a K-12 enrollment. For rules and procedures, see the handbook on the left.

There should be NO Livestreaming or video taping of the Spelling Bee Competitions. The words that are provided by Scripps are used all around the country; therefore we do not want to give others an unfair advantage.
