Regional Spelling Bee
Need a personal spell checker? Push your computer aside and come see the region's preeminent spellers respond to the pressure of competition as they use their incredible spelling acumen and memory to dissect and spell some arduous words.The Spelling Bee Program is designed to help students improve their spelling skills and increase their vocabulary development; giving students encouragement as they build confidence. The Spelling Bee is a series of spelling contests starting at the local school and district level with winners advancing to the regional event. Regional winners then participate in the Multi-Region State Spelling Bee with that winner advancing to the National Spelling Bee. The champion of our Multi-Region Spelling Bee will win an all-expenses-paid trip (including one adult) to compete in the 2018-19 Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, DC held May – June 2019.Target Audience - Grades 5-8Regional Spelling Bee Winners - February 5, 2019

- 2nd Place: Peighton Dandurand - 6th grade - Central MN Christian School
- 3rd Place: Rachel Pixler - 6th grade - GSL Lincoln Jr High - First Lutheran School
- 4th Place: Gavin Starr - 8th grade - Lester Prairie High School
- Alternate: Melody Filzen - 8th grade - Renville County West School
2019 Regional Spelling Bee Winners
In order to participate in the Regional Spelling Bee event in Redwood Falls, SCHOOLS MUST REGISTER WITH BOTH SWWC and with Scripps National Spelling Bee. www.spellingbee.comSchools then hold a Local Bee in each school building (elementary and middle) with those winners competing in a District Bee prior to January 23. The top one or two winners are then sent to the Regional Bee. The number of students attending the Regional Bee from each district is determined by the size of your school. One speller per 1,000 students based on a K-12 enrollment. For rules and procedures, see the handbook on the left.There should be NO Livestreaming or video taping of the Spelling Bee Competitions. The words that are provided by Scripps are used all around the country; therefore we do not want to give others an unfair advantage.TIMELINESScripps Enrollment Deadlines

- Standard School Fee: $226 from October 17 - December 2018

Photos and Media: By participating in this event you are giving SWWC permission to use any audio/video recordings and photographs that are taken during the event.
