Workshop Title: Reflective Practice: Contemplating Student Results for Braille/Tactile Learners with Additional Learning Challenges and Moving Forward with Balanced Literacy Strategies

Description: This workshop provides a venue for reflecting on the teaching content presented at a November 2017 workshop on meaningful instructional strategies to teach students who are braille/tactile learners and have additional learning challenges. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in reflective practice and consider student results, successes, challenges, continued problem solving, and adjusting instruction.

Then new content will be shared on a balanced approach to braille/tactile literacy instruction focusing on English Language Arts and Mathematics literacy and numeracy, written communication, and demonstrating understanding. Teaching practices, such as evaluation, goals, monitoring progress, inclusive educational practices will be included.

The workshop learning design will be meaningful to new participants as well as the participants in the November 2017 training.

Presenter: Donna McNear, M.A., COMS, is an educational consultant providing technical assistance and training to agencies, organizations, governments, schools, and families internationally, nationally, state, and locally. Ms. McNear is an author, invited presenter, former member of the Braille Authority of North America, and principal investigator/co-principal investigator for OSEP funded research projects in braille assessment.
