Technology Integration for 21st Century Learning

Today’s technology brings exciting possibilities for the classroom. When technology is used effectively teachers can create dynamic lessons that actively engage students in a meaningful way. The entire paradigm of the classroom is changing. Students and teachers alike are finding new and innovative ways to utilize technology in the classroom.

It is well known that technology in and of itself is not a solution; rather we must integrate technology into the curriculum in a manner that increases student learning. Research shows us that students greatly benefit from technology infused instruction. The effective use of technology in the classroom fosters independence, collaboration, information exchange, inquiry-based learning, critical thinking and multi-sensory stimulation with student-centered instruction.

Schools have just begun to tap into the potential of the current technology available. Students now have the opportunity to conduct research utilizing some of the same tools as experts and collaborate with others on a global level. Social networking tools such as a wiki, blog, podcast and discussion board allow students to extend well beyond the walls of classroom. Tools such as the interactive whiteboard and student response systems are dramatically changing the way students are learning. Students can even take classes offered online from anywhere in the state not otherwise offered at their school in a new and innovative way.

The SW/WC Service Cooperative's Information Technology Department is committed to helping members effectively integrate technology into curriculum. If you would like more information on technology integration services please contact
