EDUCATIONAL RESOURCE LIBRARYThe overall goal of the Educational Resource Library is to provide prescriptively relevant educational materials to children and teachers. The Library is housed in the Montevideo Office of the SW/WC Service Cooperative.
The Educational Resource Library contains over 11,000 items such as books, kits, games, videocassettes, computer software (both Macintosh and Windows), and other resources for teacher instruction. The present inventory is valued at $170,000. Each year SEIMC adds $8,000 of new materials. By adding new materials each year, we can meet the changing needs of our students and teachers. We are currently adding materials in the areas of reading comprehension, mathematics, affective education, secondary transition for special needs, and curriculum standards. Access is very user friendly. Teachers may call in requests, email or fax. Requests are shipped in a timely manner, generally a one-week turn around. All materials are signed out for a one-month period except computer software and videocassettes, which are signed out for a two-week period. The complete Library is now on the SW/WC Service Cooperative website, under Programs and Services. The catalog is not annotated so we continue to use the diagnostic/prescriptive approach to materials selection. This approach gives teachers the opportunity to see many new materials at a reasonable fee; thus making better use of their own limited resources. The Library remains a service of direct use to teachers and students by increasing the available resources for instruction and rendering assistance in local districts to meet state and federal mandates to provide appropriate educational services. The Resource library is open to school faculty members Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4:30 pm.
